What do we do?

Collingham Band is fortunate to have members who recognise the importance of practising together in order to realise their full potential and there has been an average attendance of 90% at practice over many years.

There is no audition for band membership. Prospective members are invited to come to band practice for several weeks so that they can see whether the band offers them the experience they are looking for. There may be a short delay in securing a place in the band if one section is full and additional players of certain instruments would lead to an unbalanced performance.

JOIN the BAND

Join Collingham Band, Wetherby

Everyone is welcome to join Collingham Band once they reach Associated Board Grade 4 on their instrument, providing that they are committed to regularly attending band practice.

There are normally parts for any wind or brass instrument.  Currently the band includes oboe, clarinet, flute, saxophone, bassoon, trumpet, euphonium and percussion.

Collingham Band plays at several events during the year and we rehearse every Friday evening during term time, 6pm - 7pm. Our rehearsal venue is between Wetherby and north Leeds at Collingham Methodist Church Hall, Harewood Road, Collingham LS22 5BL.

Members of Collingham Band are aged from 10 years to 70+, including 13 adults, 20 members who attend secondary school and 3 members who are at primary school.

Band uniform aims to give a cohesive appearance when performing but at minimal cost.  Members purchase a band sweatshirt in black and a fleece jacket in red, both of which are embroidered with the band shield. These are worn with members' own black skirt or trousers, white shirt and black shoes when performing.

We have fun! We make new friends and keep in touch with old friends – which is particularly important for the teenage members, many of whom will have gone to the same primary schools before dispersing to any of seven secondary schools in the Wetherby, north Leeds or Harrogate areas.

We play a wide range of classical and contemporary music and perform regularly throughout the year - visit the Events page to see where we are performing in 2018.
